Employer Responsibilities
- Provide a minimum of 30 hours during the students’ shop week, Monday - Sunday. If the student cannot get to 30 hours for a given week, the student will need to make up the hours by coming back into shop during that week, or doing a Saturday school.
- Ensure activities are related to the student’s technical training.
- Provide supervision by an experienced professional.
- Evaluate the students performance with a grade and sign the evaluation form that the students present to you at the end of the week. They have this on their cell phones.
- Adhere to state and federal child labor laws, hour restrictions, and compensate students with at least minimum wage. Students cannot be paid as an independent sub-contractor 1099
- Follow equal opportunity rules, and regulations.
- Provide safety training to the students.
- Provide a safe and supportive work environment.
- Provide Workers Compensation Insurance to Mr. Shuman (either a hard copy or a .pdf is acceptable)
- Complete and sign the schools Cooperative education agreement form, and all necessary paperwork.
- The Co-op Coordinator will pick up the filled out CORI form with a copy of your driver’s license.
- Report work related injuries or accidents to the school Co-op office.
- Job descriptions can be very helpful with matching the employer with the right student for the job. Job descriptions usually containing: general tasks, related duties, responsibilities, skills, expectations, qualifications, certifications, tools, machinery, working conditions, and physical demands. Other details that are helpful are location of job, age requirements, drivers license preference, rate of pay, work schedule, person to contact, and how to apply.

- After hiring: Once the student is hired. The employer is expected to go over the following items with the student:
1. Health and safety training and orientation
2. Workplace expectations, rules, cell phone rules, and policies
3. Employer onboarding forms (I9, tax forms, direct deposit, ect)
4. Who will be the students supervisor and who they should go to for
questions, supports, concerns, or issues
5. Pay cycle and pay day.
6. How to call out and report absences
7. How to report a work related injury or illness
8. Who will be completing the students co-op timesheets
- Workers comp insurance: A copy of your workers comp certificate of liability insurance. If you are unable to find it your insurance company can send it directly to us. Bristol-Plymouth as the certificate holder.
- CORI checks: A completed CORI/SORI form of the person(s) that will be supervising the student(s). Any person to be checked must be verified in person by a representative from B-P.
- Agreement form: A completed and signed co-op agreement form returned, one per student. This will be via Adobe Sign, everything is signed digitally. Note: Students cannot be paid as an independent contractor (form 1099), or in cash. They must be paid by the hour with a regular paycheck with tax deduction. Commission based pay is not allowed.
- Site Safety Check: Completion of a site safety check of the area that the student will be working in. The check will be conducted by a representative from B-P.
