Principal's January 22nd Message
Posted by Lindsey Pelley on 1/22/2021
Dear B-P Families,
I hope this email finds all of our B-P families in both good health and good spirits during these challenging times. Events of the last year have impacted people across the country and the world, and as a result, members of many communities have experienced increased levels of stress and anxiety. While a great deal has changed, it is important to remember that much remains the same.
There is still a great deal of support available within our school community, including many resources that are designed to help individuals maintain a sense of well-being. We are committed to serving students from all diverse backgrounds and perspectives, and we believe that all students should be supported.
B-P Wellness Google Classroom Support
If your child is in need of support or counseling, please contact your child’s guidance counselor or school adjustment counselor. In addition, current social/emotional resources for students and families can be found in a Google Classroom maintained by our counselors and school psychologist. If interested, please join the classroom using the following code: tyze4u3
The Guidance and Career Center has scheduled PSAT tests for Tuesday, January 26, 2021, for 11th-grade students who previously signed up for taking this year’s test. Juniors are on a remote shop learning day and arrangements have previously been made with your child and the school for bus transportation for that day for those who requested this. Test-takers must report to the cafeteria by 7:45 am, as the exam will begin promptly at 8:00 am. Upon check-in, students will be given a room number to report to for the exam administration. Students will not be able to test once the exam begins. After the test is completed, if your child is staying in school for a full day, he/she is required to bring their Chromebook with them to school so that they may continue to work on their remote shop learning assignments for the remainder of the school day. Students will be served lunch if they are staying at school. Junior students, who leave after the PSAT test window, will be expected to return to their online remote shop learning in the afternoon when they arrive back home.
Attention all Freshmen Families
The release date for Final Shop Placement is going to be Wednesday, March 17 at 3 p.m.
In order to look up your child’s BP Freshman's "Final Shop Placement", you must have access to ASPEN Student/Family portal. Families already have access to their ASPEN account as this is the same platform where students review their grades and look up their shop exploratory bi-weekly placement. However, if families still do not know their login credentials or might have gotten "locked out" of their account, you must CLICK HERE to fill an online form or email email@example.com with any questions about the form in order to obtain or reset your ASPEN account username and password. Further "Final Placement Directions" on how to actually look up the Final Placement Shop will be released on March 17 at 3 p.m. Any other questions may be directed to Mr. Montesano, Gr 9 guidance counselor, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Important Update About Flu Vaccine
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is removing the requirement for flu vaccination for attendance in childcare/preschool, primary, secondary and postsecondary education. Preliminary data show that this has been a mild flu season to date, presumably as people have received their seasonal flu vaccine and have been adhering to mask-wearing and social distancing due to COVID-19. Given the intensive Commonwealth-wide efforts regarding COVID-19 vaccination, DPH wants to alleviate the burden to obtain flu vaccination and focus on continuing our COVID -19 vaccination efforts. DPH continues to strongly recommend that everyone age six months and older receive their seasonal flu vaccine each year. The updated schedule can be found here.
End of Term 2
Term 2 will be ending on January 27th. Report cards will be distributed and available on the Aspen Student Portal the following week. Parents and students will receive an email reminder to check the portal once report cards are ready and available for viewing in the portal.
February & March School Calendars
The February school calendar and the March school calendar have been posted on our B-P website for 2020-21. These months will continue to follow this year’s normal 6-day rotation. Please note that Wednesday, March 17th is a full professional development day for B-P staff, and there will be no school for either in-person or remote students.
Film and Video Policy pg. 33 of the 2020-21 Student-Parent Handbook (reminder)
Now that the DESE regulation went into effect on January 19, 2021, with regard to schools that have adopted a hybrid learning model that 35 hours of synchronous learning must take place over each 10-day period, I would like to remind B-P families of the film and video school policy.
“No student shall record either audio, an image or video using any electronic device, including cell phones, of any administrator, faculty member, staff, employee or student without their, the Principal or designee’s permission. Violations of the Massachusetts electronic surveillance statute “M.G.L. Chapter 272; Section 99. Interception of wire and oral communications” may be reported to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), at the discretion of the Principal or designee.”
Silver Dollar School Store
The $ilver Dollar School Store is now open for online purchasing of sweatshirts, shirts, sweatpants, hats, and more. If your favorite item is out of stock, be sure to check back again soon as the store will be restocking several new items.
Free Breakfast and Lunch Continues
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is extending the free breakfast and lunch program through the end of the school year for ALL students. Please contact our cafeteria manager, Jeff Simbro, at email@example.com with any questions or if you would like to participate in our meals-to-go program for remote learning days.
All B-P students have been provided with a 2020-21 student ID this year. It is important that students wear these every day that they have an in-person learning day at Bristol-Plymouth. These IDs serve as payment for the a la carte items from the breakfast/lunch program, as a sign-out system for library books, and as an electronic entry/exit system for our academic/main hallway bathrooms. If your child has misplaced or lost this year’s school ID, please have him/her report to the main office to see Ms. Pelley for a new one as soon as possible.
Lifetouch Make-Up Day
Lifetouch will be at B-P on Monday, February 1st from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for anyone who has not had their picture taken yet this school year. Fully remote students and students who will not be in-person on February 1st may contact Ms. Pelley at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule an appointment to come in to have their photo taken.
Junior and Senior Prom Planning
In order to not lose last year’s prom venue deposits for both the junior and senior proms, our class advisors, Ms. Bennett (class of 2021) and Mrs. Rudek (class of 2022) had transferred those deposits to secure dates for the same venues so the students would not lose their fundraising efforts. Both advisors have had many inquiries regarding this year’s prom planning. While dates are tentative, we cannot yet commit to hold these proms at this time or until it is safe to do so. The senior prom’s tentative date is for Wednesday, May 26th at Lakeview Pavilion in Foxboro, MA, and the junior prom date is to be determined at the Holiday Inn in Taunton, MA. Advisors are suggesting that if these events were to be able to take place this school year, that they be a semi-formal event, rather than a formal event. In this way, parents and students would not have to commit to any expensive costs months ahead of time for an event that may not be able to take place. If you have any questions, please contact either email@example.com for senior events or firstname.lastname@example.org for junior events.
Cap & Gown Payments
PayPal invoices for graduation caps and gowns have been emailed to all senior students. If you need your Paypal invoice emailed to you again, please email email@example.com. If you prefer to pay by cash or check, please give the payment to Ms. Pelley in the main office.
Fall 2 Sports Season
Many parents and students have inquired about the Fall 2 sports season that had been an option for fall sports to be played during March/April this school year. No decision will be made until after February 11th when a formal Mayflower League meeting will be held with principals and athletic directors.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
