• Principal's May Message

Posted by Lindsey Pelley on 5/14/2021

    Dear B-P Families,

I hope this communication finds all of our B-P families safe and well as we are already halfway through the month of May. All of our students have transitioned very well this week back into their full in-person learning at B-P, and it is great to have them back on a daily basis. Here is the June Calendar for your planning and reference, and there is no school on Monday, May 31st in honor of Memorial Day.

    Emergency Broadband Benefit Program

Commissioner Riley has asked school districts to share the following with our school families: The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that provides a temporary discount on monthly broadband bills for qualifying low-income households. Eligible households can receive:

    • Up to a $50/month discount on their broadband service and associated equipment rentals

    • Up to a $75/month discount if their household is on qualifying Tribal lands

    • A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer (with a co-payment of more than $10 but less than $50)

Only one monthly service discount and one device discount is allowed per household. Households can begin applying for and enrolling in the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program on Wednesday, May 12. The program will end when the fund runs out of money or six months after the Department of Health and Human Services declares an end to the COVID-19 health emergency, whichever is sooner.

Since my last communication about upcoming senior events, etc., we have surveyed the Class of 2021 for their input to guide the decision making process for the senior celebrations and graduation ceremony. Thus, I am sharing all of the latest information and updates that have been made over the past few weeks with the senior planning committee.

Senior Cap & Gown Payments: There are approximately 10 seniors who have not paid for their caps & gowns and will not receive them if they are not paid for. All seniors received an email from Paypal in your student @bptech.org email.  You can use that email to pay for your Cap & Gown online.  A Paypal account is not needed for this transaction.  Payments can be processed via debit or credit card if you select that as your option. You can mail or bring a check made payable to Bristol-Plymouth RTS for $20.00  to 207 Hart St., Taunton, MA 02780 (Attn: Ms. Pelley) and in the memo area write your name and cap & gown.

    Senior Obligation List

Failure to return any items will generate a student-obligation list and an invoice will be sent to your home for these items that are not returned from our students. Per the student-parent handbook, students who are on the obligation list will not be allowed to participate in any upcoming senior events and that also could include participation in the graduation ceremony. Please contact the school’s business office at 508-823-5151 x109 with any questions about any invoice that you’ve received online that you are concerned about.

    Senior Scholarship/Awards Night

We will be posting the senior scholarship/awards night pre-taped video online at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 20th at www.bptech.org. Scholarships and awards recipients, who have been invited, by email, to an in-person awards night in the cafeteria, must RSVP by Friday, May 14th, in order to receive their scholarship or award in person. This is an optional in-person event, and anyone who would like to view the pre-taped video with their families at home will receive their scholarship or award inside their guidance packets on their last day of school on Friday, May 28th.

    Senior Last Academic Day

The last academic day for seniors is Friday, May 21st, and grades will close for seniors on Tuesday, June 1st. This day will also provide our senior students an opportunity to return any B-P issued property including but not limited to: academic and shop/related books, library books, Chromebooks (if not being used for senior project presentations) any Fall 2 athletic uniforms and/or gear, calculators, etc. Senior remote and shop-only students also need to return their books, Chromebooks, etc. to the school and can arrange to drop them off to the reception desk, help desk, or main office from May 21st through May 28th from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Seniors are also encouraged to wear their Class of 2021 t-shirts to school on this day.

    Senior Co-op

The last day for seniors to participate in this year’s co-operative (co-op) learning experience is Tuesday, May 25th.

    Senior Ice Cream Social

Seniors are encouraged to wear their college, military, or employment shirt or attire to B-P, and those seniors that participate will receive a raffle ticket that will be drawn for prizes on Friday, May 28th. After lunch shifts, and by shop, seniors will have a ticket voucher to visit the on-site ice cream truck for a treat of their choice.

    Early Release/Senior Projects

Grades 9, 10, and 11 will be dismissed at 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 27th. Seniors will remain in school until 2:30 p.m. to present their senior projects beginning at 12:30 p.m. All seniors will have to provide their own ride home because bus transportation will not be available. Seniors will also be able to retrieve their personal belongings from the shop, such as tools, toolboxes, senior projects, etc.

    Senior Success & Celebration Day

The last day of school for seniors will be on Friday, May 28th and is a full day of school. All of the day’s events will be held outdoors, so a rain date is scheduled for Tuesday, June 1st. We are in the process of preparing several events to celebrate with our seniors on this day and the day begins with all seniors arriving and checking in at 8 a.m. through the cafeteria entrance. They will be divided into groups and I will give directions and an overview of the day’s events. Some of these events will include a graduation rehearsal, senior stations with distributions of caps and gowns, yearbooks, scholarships/awards, guidance counselor packets, detailed graduation information, and other important items to name a few. These stations will rotate outdoors with both sign-up competitions and free-play activities that will coincide with raffle items and prizes. All seniors will participate in a culinary-arts prepared cookout, and end the day with an opportunity for yearbook signing before dismissal.

    Student Council Sponsored “Movie Night”

This will be held on Friday, May 28th from 7:30 - 10 p.m. in the gym parking lot and is open to the first 150 students to sign up for a first-come, first-serve basis to watch a PG-13 movie. There will be no charge for the movie, but the Student Council will be selling snacks and drinks as their fundraiser. Students who attend will be asked to bring a lawn chair if they have one. We will have standard chairs for anyone who doesn’t bring a lawn chair to this evening event. This event will be canceled if it rains and an announcement will be made during the school day. All students who attend must have a ride home at 10 p.m. All attendees must be masked to enter.

    Senior Semi-Formal Outdoor Dance

Thanks to many parents and community donors, on Friday, June 4, 2021, from 7 - 10 p.m. there will be a Senior-only semi-formal dance in the gym parking lot under an open-air tent, in lieu of a formal prom. All seniors are invited to attend and tickets are free, but seniors must have a ticket to attend and have met all of their senior obligations. There will be a DJ, decorations, drinks and snacks provided. Safe distance dancing will be allowed, but no slow dancing and all attendees must wear masks at all times, except for eating and drinking in shifts in designated seating areas. For any additional information, please contact Ms. Tina Bennett, senior class advisor, at tbennett@bptech.org

    Senior Graduation

The graduation will be on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 11 a.m. on the football field. Seniors have voted for a traditional ceremony, and in order to follow all of the state and local guidelines, each senior will be allowed 2 guest tickets. Seniors will arrive at the school by 10 a.m. and check in with their teachers and line up in the gym. Seniors will sit in their designated seats and can be spaced 3 feet apart, while guests within the same household may sit together and be 6 feet apart from others. In order to accommodate guests who are not from the same household, we will have additional single seating that will be 6 feet apart. All guests must have a ticket to enter onto the field, and no other guests will be allowed outside of the fenced area. Additionally, guests must stay in their assigned seats, except for bathroom purposes, but cannot approach the stage area for photographs. We will have Lifetouch photographers taking photos of all graduates that will be available for purchase. The event will also be livestreamed and able to be viewed on our website at www.bptech.org starting at 11 a.m. Once the graduation concludes, seniors will meet their families outside of the football field and fenced area. In the event of inclement weather, the graduation date will be on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 11 a.m. The decision to reschedule the graduation will be made and announced by Thursday, June 3rd if rain is predicted. All graduates and guests must be masked at all times during this ceremony.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, especially as we prepare for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.
