Program Description
So you love to cook and bake? Bristol-Plymouth’s Culinary Arts Program can turn your interest into a gratifying career by enabling you to attain competence in major areas of food preparation, bakery and pastry arts, customer service, and hospitality. You can take advantage of a wide range of learning opportunities and experiences; developing your technical skills in a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen while keeping with industry expectations and standards. In the Silver Platter Restaurant and Café, our student-run restaurant and bakery café serving the community, faculty, and staff, you’ll practice all areas of the Culinary Arts field including dining room operations, cooking, bakeshop, pastry making, and customer service.

Program of Study
Freshman Year: Hygiene and sanitation, basic kitchen equipment, safety procedures for handling & cleaning of food service equipment.
Sophomore Year: Weights, measures and portion control, knife skills, dining room management and service, cash handling/management, customer service skills.
Junior Year: Advanced cooking techniques, advanced baking and food preparation.
Senior Year: Recipe and menu development, cost control, purchasing and receiving, international cuisine, entrepreneurial skills.

Additional Information
You’ll have opportunities to participate in many community service events; demonstrating your hospitality and culinary skills to various organizations and competitions. Integrating academic and industry will help you gain valuable life skills including teamwork, leadership, communication and technical entry-level employment skills. As a Culinary Arts graduate, you’ll be prepared for National certifications including ServSafe Food Safety Protection Manager certification, Allergen, TIPS, OSHA and CPR training and be on your way to a satisfying career.
