Exploratory Program
With more than 12,000 job titles in existence (according to the
latest edition of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles), almost
anyone could use a little help in narrowing the field! Bristol-Plymouth
offers you the chance to explore sixteen different career areas
which represent hundreds of specific jobs and many broad categories
of businesses and industries.
All ninth graders participate in the Exploratory Program. Here
students find out about career ladders, working conditions, and
the training and education requirements to become successful in
each occupational area. As a ninth grader at Bristol-Plymouth, you
can look at a wide variety of employment options that could provide
the key to a rewarding and successful future.
Every student visits every technical area in the school during
the first shop week before choosing specific programs to explore
in depth during the next 24 weeks of the freshman year. As a Bristol-Plymouth
student, you will learn about the tools, equipment and technology
of each occupational field you explore. You will have the chance
to try your hand at skills ranging from soldering to sauteing, and
will study everything from minuscule electronic parts to powerful
automobile engines. As students learn about careers, they also discover
more about their interests and abilities – many find new talents
they can tap for a rewarding future!
Armed with new and valuable information, students are able to make
informed and meaningful career selections near the end of the ninth
grade, choosing one technical area to study for the remainder of
their high school years.
