Cosmetology
Cosmetology provides a wide variety of career opportunities in
hairdressing, esthetics and salon management. This program is a
great choice for students who are interested in hair styling and
skin care and enjoy interacting with people of all ages. Successful
students learn to think critically, solve problems, and use their
creativity. The major goal of the Cosmetology program at B-P is
to integrate realistic work situations with classroom theory, to
prepare students for the state licensing exam and promote a smooth
transition from school to the world of work.
Facilities
The Cosmetology Clinic, open to the public, has new, state-of-the-art
equipment in a true salon setting, where students perform services
for real clients. The salon also sells professional salon products,
giving students additional customer service experience. Students
also use the Cyber-Imaging System, a computerized option for clients
looking to preview a new cut, color or style.
Recipe for Success
Take a reliable self-starter who enjoys working with people. Add
creativity and flexibility to the mix. Sprinkle a liberal dose of
compassion, along with a sense of humor, and you have created a
successful and dedicated Cosmetologist.
Career Highlights
After completing 1,000 hours in the Cosmetology Clinic, students
are prepared to take the state licensing examination. After attaining
this first step, graduates can go anywhere – literally. This
is a career with no geographical boundaries, in a growing industry
where licensed cosmetologists can own their own salons or do make-up
for the stars, for example. Some graduates pursue postsecondary
education in cosmetology management or education, to train the next
generation of cosmetologists.
