February 3, 2003

Dear Parent/Guardian:

I would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of several services and events happening at Bristol-Plymouth.

Bristol-Plymouth is expanding the Grade 11 & 12 after-school support services to include services for Grade 10 students in preparation for the Spring MCAS tests. These services have been designed particularly for those students who did not achieve a passing grade on the mathematics and/or English Language Arts MCAS tests in Grades 8 & 10. The program for sophomores will begin on Monday, February 27, 2003, from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. English Language Arts will be offered on Monday afternoons and Mathematics will be offered on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons for the remainder of the school year.

The staff and administration at Bristol-Plymouth recommends that your son/daughter take full advantage of this educational opportunity. Bus transportation to central locations within your city or town will be provided by the school and depart from B-P at 4:00 p.m.

We would also like to call to your attention that Bristol-Plymouth has been involved with the Safe Neighborhood Initiative in the City of Taunton in composing a Crisis Response Plan. This plan insures that we are prepared for any catastrophic event that may happen at B-P. We have had several evacuation/fire drills and are preparing for a "lock-down" (safe refuge in an emergency) drill in the near future.

We will continue to educate students about their health and safety on and off campus via our comprehensive health program. Presentation topics include: 9th--Substance abuse prevention by the Bristol County Sheriff's Association and Personal safety/injury prevention by the Taunton Police Department; 10th--Seat belt and junior operator's license safety by the Taunton Police Department and drug abuse prevention by Narconon; 11th--Brain Injury Awareness and Prevention by the MA Brain Injury Association and sexual harassment awareness and prevention by Health Care of SE MA; and 12th--Alcohol & substance abuse by MADD and breast & prostate cancer screening by Dr. Thayer.

If you have any questions regarding these support services, please call Mr. Stephen Bradshaw, Curriculum Coordinator, at 508.823.5151, ext. 101.

Sincerely,

Richard Gross
Principal
