Bristol-Plymouth Practical Nurse Program


Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School offers a Practical Nurse Program which is fully approved be the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Graduation from the Practical Nurse Program qualifies the student to apply for the National Council License Examination for Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

PROGRAM CONTENT

Full-Time Day Program: The full time day program begins every September and runs for ten months (forty weeks). Class is in session Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Part-Time Evening Program:The part time evening program runs twenty months (eighty weeks) over the course of two years and begins every other September. Class is in session three evenings per week beginning at 4:00 p.m. The next part time program will begin in September 2013.

HOW TO APPLY

Full-Time Day Program: Applicants can submit an application (link found below) beginning October 1, 2011 for admission to the full time day program beginning in September 2012.

Part-Time Evening Program: Applications are accepted every other year. Applicants can submit an application (link found below) beginning October 1, 2012 for admission to the part time evening class beginning in September 2013 and concluding in June 2015.

APPLICATION

PRE-ENTRANCE TESTING

All candidates must pass the TEAS test to be eligible for consideration for admission to either program. All applicants are required to take TEAS test Version V. The TEAS test will be given at Bristol Plymouth starting in November 2011. Click on the link below for the current TEAS registration form(s). Testing dates will be listed on the registration form. Please note TEAS testing fees will remain the same -$40.00 per test.

Pre-registration is required for all testing. Candidates will not be admitted without prior registration and payment of the testing fee. Passing scores on the entrance test is determined by the Practical Nurse Program and are posted on the registration form. Candidates are allowed are allowed to test two times per year. Test scores are valid for a period of two years.

Bristol-Plymouth does not participate in student federal financial aid programs (FASFA). A payment plan for tuition is available. Once accepted into the program, a non-refundable deposit of $1,000.00 for in-district or $1,500.00 for out-of-district students is due.

Admission Requirements

1. Completed application form with non-refundable application fee. Qualified residents of member communities Berkley, Bridgewater, Middleborough, Raynham, and Taunton are given priority. Applications are valid for two enrollment cycles.
2. Proof of High School graduation from a High School recognized by the Department of Education or state High School Equivalency Credential (G.E.D.). Foreign diplomas must be translated to English and a certified equivalency to U.S. education must be provided.
3. Satisfactory CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information).
4. Official High School transcript (regardless of number of years attended).
5. Three references, one of which should include a former or present employer.
6. Pre-entrance testing - passing scores on the entrance test as determined by the Practical Nurse Program. Candidates are allowed to test two times per year. Test scores are valid for a period of two years.
7. Interview with the director and/or Faculty member of the Admissions Committee.

Once accepted, students must also:
• Have a satisfactory CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information). All clinical facilities reserve the right to conduct an
additional CORI of practical nurse students.
• DPH Required Immunizations (3 doses Hepatitis B, TD booster within last 10 years, 2 doses measles, one dose
mumps, one dose rubella, one dose Varicella).
• Seasonal influenza may also be required.
• Physical examination within one year of beginning the program.
• Obtain CPR Certification for Health Professionals.

Selection of candidates for admission is based in part on the following considerations:
1. Personal interview.
2. Previous course of study that reflects success in Science, English, and Math.
3. Average grade of C or better in high school is preferred with consideration for trends demonstrating improvement and motivation.
4. Post secondary education or certifications.
5. Prior work experience in health care or a related field.
